MonaLisa Touch – state-of-the-art aesthetic gynecology

MonaLisa Touch procedures are dedicated to women at all ages:

– young women, dissatisfied with the look and shape of their labia and perineum, e.g. after childbirth,

– perimenopausal women complaining of vaginal dryness, pain during sexual intercourse, or constant irritation of their private parts,

– elderly women coping e.g. with stress urinary incontinence.

Difficult childbirth, menopause, urinary incontinence or unattractive anatomy may alter the body appearance and function. This, in turn, may lead to reduced self-esteem, isolation, and avoidance of sexual contacts. Aesthetic gynecology comes to the rescue to all women who desire to improve the look and attractiveness as well as the sexual function of their genital organs, who want to enhance the comfort of their sex lives, achieve fuller sexual satisfaction, and improve their self-esteem. Satisfactory sex life is a very important element of the relationship, allowing for the establishment of deeper understanding with another person. It contributes to one’s self-esteem as well as well-being.

Increasingly often, disorders that could hitherto be treated only by surgical means, may be eliminated by non-invasive methods, requiring no recovery downtime and bearing no risk of complications. These include, for example, MonaLisa Touch™ laser procedures.

MonaLisa Touch™ lasers were developed with the feminine health and beauty in mind. The technology was developed by the Italian company DEKA, having more than 30 years of experience in the construction of laser tools. The company was established in 1981 to immediately become a leader in the design, production, and sales of laser devices for the medical market.

After childbirth:

TAKE CARE OF YOUR GENITALS AFTER CHILDBIRTH

Most common problems reported by women after childbirth consist in difficulties with regaining pre-pregnancy body weight, skin stretch marks, or problems with abdominal constriction following the delivery. Other problems however, namely these related to female genitals, are rarely mentioned. This relates to the peritoneum and the vagina which are at the highest risk of changes following the delivery of a child.

PROBLEM

Childbirth by natural forces, particularly in pluriparous women, may loosen vaginal tissues leading to vaginal looseness syndrome. This in turn may reduce sexual satisfaction. Sometimes, urinary bladder may become dysfunctional resulting in urinary incontinence. If the pelvic floor exercise (Kegel exercise) brings no expected effects, patients may decide to undergo vaginal rejuvenation surgery (VRS).

SOLUTION

Due to their benefits and safety, laser procedures are becoming increasingly popular. MonaLisa Touch™ is most innovative and the most effective laser device for use in aesthetic gynecology.

The procedure restores vaginal elasticity while reducing the size of the vagina and improve its hydration. The laser energy delivers heat to vaginal mucosa and collagen contained therein. As a result of high temperature, collagen fibers contract and new fibers are being formed, thus stimulating vaginal self-regeneration. The vagina becomes tighter and more elastic.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

Patients are qualified for the procedure on the basis medical consultation and the result of cytological examination. MonaLisa Touch™ is performed using a special probe featuring a scanner introduced into the vagina. The laser exerts its effects directly on the vaginal wall, causing a multitude of precisely distributed microinjuries which lead to the development of new young cells and glands, completely remodeling vaginal mucosa. The procedure leads to vaginal contraction, mucosal reconstruction, and reduction of urinary incontinence without the need for surgical intervention. The procedure is painless and requires no anesthesia or recovery downtime. Sexual activity may be resumed after about 3 days.

EFFECTS

The effects of the procedure are noticeable already one month after the procedure, with the vagina regaining its pre-partum condition, being better hydrated, and tighter. This improves the sensations experienced during the intercourse. The problem of urinary incontinence is resolved or significantly reduced.

The number of procedures depends on individual needs of the patient, i.e. On the degree of tissue elongation. Usually, a single procedure is enough. If another procedure is required, however, it may be performed after a period of 2-4 weeks.

Menopause

MENOPAUSE
A NEW CHAPTER IN WOMANHOOD

Menopause is not a disorder; it is rather a new chapter in womanhood. However, numerous stereotypes still affect its popular perception. A crucial element of current approach to female sexuality at different life stages consists in understanding the issue of sexual satisfaction which may be deeper in the emotional rather than physical dimension. A comprehensive approach to feminine sexuality becomes particularly difficult in the perimenopausal period.

PROBLEM

During menopause, female genitals age due to the decreasing estrogen levels. As many as 50% post-menopausal women complain of genital atrophy symptoms including vaginal dryness, pain during sexual intercourse, irritation manifested by itching or burning sensation, or stress urinary incontinence.

SOLUTION

The subtle, precise and non-invasive MonaLisa Touch™ procedure leads to vaginal contraction, mucosal reconstruction, and reduction of urinary incontinence without the need for surgical intervention. The controlled laser energy is delivered into the vaginal canal and opening to heat up the tissues. As a result, collagen fibers become more constricted and the vaginal mucosa becomes firmer and more elastic. This reduces vaginal flabbiness and eliminates the symptoms of the loose vagina syndrome

Urinary incontinence

FEEL COMFORTABLE AT ANY AGE

Urinary incontinence may develop at any age; however, it is most common in mature women. The problem is considered embarrassing and therefore frequently passed over in silence. According to estimates, 1 in every 4 women has suffered, suffers or will suffer from urinary incontinence. Therefore, the problem may be considered common.

PROBLEM

There are three types of urinary incontinence. Urge incontinence is the most common type. In this type of disorder, patients feel sudden, unstoppable urge to urinate. Stress urinary incontinence is manifested by wetting one’s pants as a result of sneezing, coughing, or physical effort associated with increased abdominal press. Mixed urinary incontinence combines the symptom profiles of both forms presented above.

SOLUTION

MonaLisa Touch™ laser treatment of urinary incontinence is painless, non-invasive, and requires no anesthesia and hospitalization. It consists in photothermal, non-ablative tightening of vagina, and strengthening of vaginal walls, infradiaphragmatic fascia, and urethral outlet. Usually, a single procedure is sufficient to reduce or eliminate mild or moderate stress urinary incontinence. If needed, the procedure may be repeated after one month.

EFFECTS

Thanks to the MonaLisa Touch™ treatment of urinary incontinence, women regain physical ans well as emotional comfort and are no longer restricted by the embarrassing problem. Regained self-esteem also contributes to improved sexual life.

Labioplasty

REGAIN SEXUAL SATISFACTION

The appearance of outer genitals is very important for every woman. Any aesthetic changes in this area have a tremendous impact on self-esteem, openness to sexual contacts, and sexual life. Certain everyday activities may also be affected. Therefore, corrective reconstruction of vagina is an ever more important element of aesthetic gynecology.

PROBLEM

Excessively large or asymmetrical labia are a common aesthetic problem for women and may be the cause of numerous complaints associated with everyday functioning, sports, and sexual activity. Deformation or asymmetry of labia is commonly due to childbirth by natural forces while labial hypertrophy is the result of genetic predisposition or excessive body weight gain.

SOLUTION

Depending on the type and extent of the defect, correction may be achieved by means of a surgery or a non-invasive MonaLisa Touch™ laser procedure. The procedure may be performed in both young and mature women. Restoration of an aesthetic look of genitals significantly improves patient’s well-being and self-esteem. The functional and physiological aspects are also important and contribute to the increased quality of patient’s life. Rehabilitation and recovery of full activity (including sexual activity) may last 7 days to a month.

PROCEDURE DETAILS

In case of type I and II labial hypertrophy resulting from the loss of skin firmness, a non-invasive procedure is performed using a scanning probe to shorten collagen fibers and stimulate production of new collagen and elastin. AS a consequence, the skin becomes thicker and firmer. The procedure is identical as in the case of urinary incontinence treatment.

In case of labial correction, laser is applied directly to the labia, outside the vagina. The laser destroys selected areas of epidermis and dermis in a controlled manner. This stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid leading to labial lift as a result of improved firmness and structure of skin. In addition, a lighter skin phototype is restored.

EFFECTS

Thanks to the MonaLisa Touch™ labioplasty, patients regain aesthetic appearance of genitals for greater self-esteem and sexual satisfaction. The main outcomes of the procedure include:

  • Mucosal reconstruction
  • Better hydration of the vagina
  • Tightening and improved firmness of the vagina.
  • Reduction of urinary incontinence
  • Labia correction: rejuvenation, lifting, whitening.

TECHNOLOGY

Dot Therapy
and D-Pulse

The efficacy of MonaLisa Touch™, the persistence of its outcomes and special benefits are offered by the combination of DOT Therapy with D-Pulse laser technology.

Safety.

As part of DOT therapy, laser energy is delivered to vaginal walls as in the form of small dots, 200 micrometers in size. Thus, only several percent of vaginal tissue area is irradiated which significantly impacts regeneration processes.

Minimum invasiveness

The specific structure of D-pulse facilitates appropriate penetration of connective tissue by CO2 laser energy. As shown on the histological image in the left, penetration occurs beneath the epithelium so that regeneration is activated without any risk to the neighboring tissues and organs.

Painlesness

MonaLisa Touch™ is completely painless when performed inside the vagina and well tolerated by the labia. The scanning properties of the DEKA HiScan V2LR system ensure short duration of the procedure delivered to vaginal tissues. Appropriate, deep stimulation requires only several minutes.

Uniqueness

SmarXide2 is the first and only laser system for the reduction of vaginal atrophy and improving its elasticity. MonaLisa Touch™ is a registered trademark of DEKA company.

Efficacy.

MonaLisa Touch™ is the only procedure with the efficacy confirmed not only by clinical, but also by histological and ultrasonographic examination results. Vaginal tissue is regenerated as a result of deep stimulation achieved by means of unique combination of a specific D-pulse CO2 laser beam and appropriate emission intensity.

D-pulse: excellent for V2LR

DEKA have developed the SmartXide2 V2LR system especially for the delivery of MonaLisa Touch™ procedures. The system delivers energy in the form of specific laser pulse that had been used previously in dermatology, but was adjusted to the specificity of vaginal mucosa. The pulse is adjusted specifically to MonaLisa Touch™ procedures and is referred to as D-Pulse (DEKA-Pulse).

The D-Pulse consists of:

  • The preliminary phase of constant, high peak power for quick, artificial ablation of atrophic mucosal epithelium characterized by low water content;
  • The second, variable phase of low peak power and longed emission time facilitating deeper penetration to stimulate the synthesis of new collagen and basal matrix elements.

The procedure delivers outstanding results consisting in strengthened vaginal structure and restoration of full trophism and functionality of structures supporting the vaginal walls.

Presented in the graphs is the percentage reduction of the main symptoms of vaginal atrophy and urinary incontinence following 3 MonaLisa Touch™ sessions. The study was conducted at the Department of Gynecology of San Raffaele hospital in patients with urogenital atrophy symptoms (results courtesy of S. Savatore, MD, – IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital. Milan, Italy).

Dot therapy:
Full tissue regeneration

The introduction of the fractional CO2 laser has become a trigger for the search of novel methods for the treatment of vaginal mucosa. Thanks to the D-pulse efficacy, DOT therapy replaces the most popular techniques of treating the loose vagina syndrome.

The term “loose vagina” usually refers to increased vaginal diameter. The phenomenon is caused by natural yet traumatic events such as childbirth as well as by natural ageing processes. DOT therapy facilitates treatment of cases caused by reduced mucosal tone.

The laser is introduced into the vagina using the special tip or the HiScan V2LR system. It interacts directly with vaginal wall mucosa so as it is remodeled, toned, and regenerated and new collagen is synthesized within the tissue.

Urinary incontinence laser treatment

As shown by recent research, MonaLisa Touch™ is very effective in the treatment of one of the most embarrassing problems affecting perimenopausal women, i.e. urinary incontinence. Thanks to the beneficial stimulation of vaginal tissues by the DEKA-Pulse CO2 laser, appropriate function of the urogenital system is restored. The treatment restored urinary continence improving the quality of life in both physical and emotional terms.

MonaLisa Touch™:
Procedure-adjusted tips

MonaLisa Touch™ requires a special scanning system for the delivery of fractional laser energy to vaginal mucosa. Appropriate procedure tip is selected depending on patient’s needs:

  • Internal 360 and 90 tips for vaginal procedures, used in the treatment of vaginal atrophy and urinary incontinence.
  • External tip for vaginal and anal procedures.

V2LR – procedures enhancing the appearance and functionality of
the vagina and labia

Labioplasty procedures performed using the SmarXide2 V2LR laser are safer and more effective than surgical procedures. The laser stimulates tissue coagulation and thus prevents bleeding. This reduces the risk of postoperative scars, reduces the swelling of the surgical site and the discomfort experienced after the procedure. It radically shortens the recovery downtime. The laser not only remodels the genitals but also increases the tightness and elasticity of tissues by stimulating collagen production.
