Liposuction

Lean and shapely body is a dream of many men. Liposuction is often used to remodel body contours by eliminating persistent, local deposits of fat. Most commonly, the procedure is performed in the abdominal and breast regions (gynecomastia).

Achievement of one’s dream look, lean and shapely figure, is a long-term process requiring systematic approach and consequence. Although healthy lifestyle, dieting and physical exercise may be helpful in these aspirations, certain body parts, particularly abdomen, shoulders, thighs, or knees, seem to be unresponsive to our efforts. In such cases, liposuction may easily reduce excess fat simultaneously allowing the muscles, hitherto hidden beneath the fatty skin, to underline the body contours.

It should be noted that liposuction is not a weight-reduction procedure (although it involves permanent removal of fat tissue). The objective of the procedure consists in appropriate remodeling of certain parts of the body.

Anesthesia and the course of the surgery

The duration of the procedure depends on the quantity of fat tissue being removed as well as on the region of the procedure. The procedure lasts for 2 to 4 hours and is performed under intravenous or general anesthesia At the first stage, several small incisions are performed and the adipose tissue is injected with anesthetic agent. Next, the adipose tissue is disintegrated and aspirated using a special device. Safe liposuction procedure involves aspiration of a maximum of 2-4 liters of fat. Compression garment is placed on patient’s body to eliminate skin edema and accelerate skin contraction.

Recovery

It is recommended that patients remain at the hospital for one day following the procedure. At the discharge, dressing is changed at the suture sites; the sutures are finally removed after another 7 days.

Patients may return to work after 3-5 days. Full physical activity and sports may be resumed after 7-14 days. The final effect is achieved about 3 months after the procedure.
